Michelle Gringeri-Brown and photographer Jim Brown publish the quarterly magazine Atomic Ranch to call attention to underappreciated ranch homes across America. Wartime bungalows, farmhouses, cottages, rambling ranchers, colonials, Victorians and townhouses all have characteristics that set them apart and make them interesting.įor the lovers of ranch style, a book and a magazine celebrate mid-century houses in all their glory. The different styles tell a story of their place in time, and mirror the best (and worst) of an era and the homeowners’ personalities. Factors such as climate, indigenous building materials and budgets big and small have produced buildings that don’t just satisfy the need for shelter. I’m always fascinated by the impressive array of architectural styles in North America.
